Tips and Advice

Spring Cleaning:
One should always start by properly cleaning the ground (scraping the ground, collecting small rocks and debris). This work can be carried out before or after your first lawn fertilization.

Watering:
Your lawn needs about one inch of watering (approximately 50 minutes) every five days, preferably in the morning. During dry periods, your lawn will need about an inch of water twice a week. To make sure you water the right quantities over all areas, we suggest you use a container to properly measure the amount of water dispersed on your lawn. It is important not to over water since this can lead to lawn diseases.

Mowing:
Throughout the year, it is crucial to keep the height of your mowing to a minimum of two and a half inches. You should never remove more than one third of the grass blade at a time. Make sure your mower blade is well sharpened, and never mow the lawn when it is wet.

Winter damage or repairs:
Once your soil has absorbed the water from melting snow, you can repair the damage caused to your lawn during the winter months.

Field mice:
Field mice often create small paths of dead grass. We suggest you scrape and seed these areas.

Check for white grubs:
The temperature in early May is ideal for white grubs to make their way to the surface. If you suspect white grub damage (brown patches and grass that can be easily removed), call us immediately.

Seeding:
Early May is one of the best times to sprout new grass. For best results, we suggest you use a high quality seed; Herbionik seed is a good choice.

Mushrooms:
In spring, mushrooms are found in damp areas. As soon as they appear, you should remove them by hand before mowing your lawn and throw them directly into the trash.
